I’m tempted to start this post by saying that I don’t really watch a lot of television or movies, but I must admit that I have indulged in this pastime significantly more since Eamon was born. This was due in part to the hours of nursing, which found me stationary and generally with my hands tied. So, watching a show (The Fosters, mostly, if you must know) seemed like a good way to entertain my mind and keep me awake.
Now that the midnight feeding days are over, Kyle and I typically find ourselves staring at each other at about 7:30 each evening after the babe is tucked in bed with not a whole lot to do. So … Netflix (and Amazon streaming) to the rescue! I’ve been delighted with some of the movies we’ve stumbled across. I’m not always someone who can sit still and watch an entire movie (I prefer doing something), but these were all very engaging.
I have also found myself making movie recommendations to mutliple friends over the last few weeks, which is so out of character for me – I’m definitely not typically on the up-and-up regarding shows and movies, so if some of these are old news – I wouldn’t be surprised!
(How’s that for a lengthy preface to a post that could have simply said: “Here’s what I’ve been watching lately!”)
What Harry Potter fan doesn’t love Daniel Radcliffe in anything? A quirky story about friends, love, romance. I loved it!
I love Reese Witherspoon! And while I do love a good, predictable chick flick – this is certainly not your traditional rom com storyline, which was delightful.
Oh man – I loved this one! The storyline was really engaging, as was the scenery. The characters and their lifestyle in this are really unique, and admirable, and complex. I would have actually loved to have discussed this with a group afterwards, Book Club-style.
Under an Arctic Sky
Not a movie, but a documentary. I’m not a surfer, nor a cold water enthusiast, but I still enjoyed this a lot. Kyle recently introduced me to Christ Burkard and now I’m a loyal Instagram-follower, and his work is amazing! This documentary is no different. Some of the footage was simply breathtaking – Northern Lights, crazy Icelandic weather, and some crazy surfing. This is a short-ish one, so if you aren’t looking for a full-length feature, this might be your cup of tea.
“Endearing” is the first word that came to mind after watching this movie. And humorous too. With Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, I don’t think you could go wrong, but not your typically romantic comedy, so be prepared to be surprised and delighted.
What are you watching these days? What should I be watching? I keep hearing about The Crown and am tempted to dive into that …. any others?
