This beautiful month we’ve just entered is providing so many reminders to me that there really is so much beauty around us and within us. More beauty that darkness, I believe, even though it is hard to see sometimes, especially in the wake of such violence.
I would have probably written an “I love October” post regardless of Sunday night’s events, because I do so love this time of year. However, the tone is different now – perhaps a bit more sincere. Oh sure, I like the pumpkin spice lattes, colorful leaves, and Halloween décor, but more than that, I’m so thankful that I get to experience and enjoy it all. I do not take the fact that I am alive, healthy, and safe today for granted. And that latte, these beautiful fall colors, so many people to love – that’s just icing on the cake.
I hope you’ll join with me in looking for the beauty this month has to offer, whether large or small. Some of the beauty I’m noticing these days:
The Twin Cities Marathon. I’m not a “marathon junkie” in the sense that I run many marathons and live and breathe for distance running. I don’t actually know if I’ll ever need to run another marathon in my life. But I’m definitely a “marathon spectating junkie.” I love this event here in the Twin Cities! The course is gorgeous, the fans plentiful, and the runners inspiring. Also, my marathon cheering game is ON POINT, if I do say so myself. And while my husband usually stands a good 25 feet from me on the sidelines because he’s embarrassed to be associated with the LOUD, VERBOSE, superfan that I am – I think he really respects my cheer preparation. Cheerparation? Someone who did NOT appreciate my cheerparation, however, was the toddler standing next to me at mile 14 who looked at me with sheer terror and when I started cheering immediately burst into sobs.
It is birthday month around here. Birthday times two this year, since Eamon decided to grace us with his presence a little early and claim October as his own. Which I obviously couldn’t be happier about. What is better than my birthday month? Sharing it with one of my favorite people, of course! You can bet your britches that we’re going to celebrate it up. Birthday decrees! Birthday treats! Birthday parties! Birthday trips!
The weather. I’m ready for summer to be over, but certainly not prepared for winter cold. October, though fickle like most months in Minnesota, usually delivers on the cool, enjoyable, fall weather front. And the colors! Predictions are that fall colors are going to be good this year on account of the wet end of summer we’ve had, and so far, I have not been disappointed. What beauty the array of oranges, yellows, and reds are!
Wishing you beauty and light and peace today and this month.
